Nicholas – who has written 7 posts on Manderfield's Home Bakery.

I'm the grandson of Dennis & Lois Manderfield and son of Paul Manderfield who runs the Appleton East bakery. I'm not very good at cooking or baking, all I can really do with food is eat it. The bakery is a big part of my life and I help part-time with the website, updating the blog, and taking pictures.

  • I work at Elite Catering and Bakery
    in Baraboo wisconsin.

We recently moved to a new location.

I have been working there for a whole year now.
I am truly inspired by your website!
we have been trying to get the bakery moving,
and i have been trying to tell the owners that the internet sells everything!!!

And every idea that i have had for them you simply have here on your website.
I love that you have featured breads!
and Daily features of every product that you make.

I really enjoyed how you had a really appealing description at the top of your pages., and how you had everything detailed and described wonderfully so i have an understanding of your product.

i am super happy that i found you! and that you are a local successful bakery!

    Things are hard for us.
We dont have the proper equipment, since we moved locations, the old location had Rented equipment, the equipment that we do have is not quite getting the job done.

We are down to one convection oven, that can only bake off 4-6 pans!, depending on what we are baking.
And we have to small 20lb mixers, we used to make 1 batch of buttercream, which yielded 5, buckets for us,
because of the small mixers, we can only make 1 bucket at a time.

And We have no freezer space so we can not make large quantities in production days, cause we dont have the space. I was soo accustomed to be a large scale production bakery, we went from lets say…ill compare quantaties..
and the old location i would make about 4 dozen assorted bagels a day. and sell out.
and at the new location, i am lucky if we can sell half a dozen bagels.

    New clients are hard here.
But its mainly our equpiment that stops up from doing great things.
    We have amazing product.

But i just want you to know that your website is just a great inspiration!
Do you do any sort of fundraisers or donations for local bakeries?

    • Every family and personally invested business comes from humble beginnings. Just remember that with all hard times comes great self-achievement when you overcome those obstacles.

Over the holidays I talked with my grandparents about how they started and when the original bakery came to be. The first one was by my great grandfather and was established in the house my grandpa grew up in. He told me about how they had a mixer on the first floor of the house that literally shook the whole house, and it was a few months if not years before they built an addition for all of the bakery gear.

You might be having equipment and storage issues now, but keep at it and over time things will build and progress as they should, but you probably already know that!

Regarding your website, it looks great! It showcases the services you offer as well as the dates and times that you’re open and what products can be picked up every day. I can’t really help you with production and how to set certain things up to maximize the available baked goods on hand, but the more you put online the more people will find you and stop in.

One thing I can recommend from a computer guy point of view is your google place page (here) is incomplete, you can verify ownership of it with a phone call and set up the full page, add pictures, hours, and categories that your business falls in. I did this for all of our locations (Google ‘manderfields appleton’ to see them all) and it lets customers and searchers know exactly what we’ve got, our hours, and where to find more information!

Cheers and good luck with everything!
